Doc on cartoonist Kambiz Derambakhsh to go to Cinema Verite

The 11th Cinema Verite is to screen a documentary about Iran cartoonist Kambiz Derambakhsh.

The 11th edition of Iran’s major international festival for documentary cinema, Cinema Verite, has scheduled to screen a documentary about Kambiz Derambakhsh titled ‘Paper Cinema’.

Derambakhsh, a cartoonist famous for his immediate and straightforward cartoons, is the main theme of the doc, which is directed by Javad Atashbari.

According to the public relations office of the festival that held a press conference on Wednesday, the film chronicles the artistic life of Derambakhsh and will go on screen in December.

Known for his talent to find ambiguous themes for his works, the 75-year-old cartoonist has been a graphic designer and illustrator for more than 50 years.

He has won a large number of awards at national and international competitions, including the grand prize of Istanbul competition (1990) in Turkey, the grand prize at Yomiuri Shimbun competition (1998) in Japan and the grand prize of an anti-war caricature contest (2002) in Poland.

Derambakhsh has displayed his works in several exhibitions around the globe.

The 11th Iran International Documentary Film Festival, Cinema Verite, is to be held December 10-17 in Tehran.

Documentary and Experimental Film Center (DEFC) is going to hold the most significant Iranian event on documentary and cinema in December.

The event will be the largest center for production, distribution and promotion of documentary, animated and experimental pictures in the Middle East.

The 11th Cinema Verite aims to protect the nation's identity, promote creative documentary, reinforce the link between documentary cinema and social facts and events, introduce new global developments in documentary cinema, provide financial support for documentarians by distributing and screening their works in other festivals and remove hurdles to film production.
